Introduction to Quilting: Ventanas Baby Quilt

During this three-session class, students will be guided through the entire process of creating a quilt from start to finish while making the beatiful and simple Ventanas baby quilt.

This is a level 1 class. No quilting experience is required; however, students should have basic knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine and to be able to sew a straight stitch, as these skills will not be covered in this class.

  • how to thread and operate a sewing machine

    how to sew a (mostly) straight line and maintain a seam allowance

  • maintaining a ¼ inch seam allowance

    preparing and cutting fabric

    techniques for accurate and efficient piecing

    assembling the quilt sandwich

    basting

    quilting and binding a quilt

  • Version A:

    • color a, b, and c ½ yard each quilting cotton

    Version B:

    • color a and b ½ yard each quilting cotton

    • color c, d, e, and f ¼ yard each or fat qurarter each quilting cotton

    Both versions:

    • 47” x 47” fabric and batting (for 42” wide fabrics you’ll need 3 yards to piece the backing)

    • ½ yard quilting cotton for binding

    • Neutral or coordinating thread for piecing

Ages 18 and up.
